Roza: Hey guys, if you are still hungry for more information about English, check out our textbook.

Practice 9:40

David: All right everyone. It’s time for the practice. Now, today’s phrases express irritation and frustration. Some of these phrases might not much your personality perfectly, but I encourage you to practice along with us so that you can master the meaning of the phrases, OK?

Roza: Great point, David. Also, in previous lessons we’ve talked about emphasizing important words. This applies when we are expressing frustration, too. So, try to notice that while we are practicing.

David: OK, here we go.

  • I told you to hang up your towel.

Let’s try that again.

  • I told you to hang up your towel.

Roza: Did you hear which part David emphasized? That’s right, “told you”. OK, let’s continue.

  • How many times have I told you to do your homework?

And another one.

  • How many times do I have to tell you to do your homework?

David: All right, here is a few more. Listen for the emphasis that I put on certain words. Here we go.

  • I’m fed up with telling you to clean up your room.
  • I’ve had it up to here telling you to clean up your room.
  • I’m sick and tired of telling you to clean up your room.
  • I’m tired of telling you to clean up your room.

Roza: Great job, everyone.

David: Good work.

Ending

Ohnishi: Hey guys, I’ve had lunch up to here.

David: It’s bad enough you went back for seconds but then you went back for thirds. 2回も3回もおかわりするからだよ。

Roza: How many times have I told you, don’t eat too much. You are goona fall asleep.

Ohnishi: Oh, but I’m hungry. というわけで、今日はこの辺で。

All: Bye.
