Opening
Hey Roza, respect your elders, OK?
Roza: Hey guys. Akino Roza here. You are right. Chris is much much much much older than me, so I should do my best to respect him.
Chris: Ah, Chris McVay here. Roza, much much much you can take away. Just leave it respect, OK?
Ohnishi:
Chris: Well, checking out our textbook is a top priority no matter the age, so give it a try.
Practice 9:57
Chris: OK, it’s practice time. This time, we have the verb respect. If you look at it closely, you’ll see s-p-e-c-t that means to look at, like spectator or spectacles. So, this naturally led the idea of looking at someone or something that has special qualities that deserve our admiration or esteem. So with that in mind, let’s practice together.
Roza: And I hope you will respect my advice to think only in English.
Chris: I always respect your advice. Here we go, “respect our elders”, “respect different cultures”, “respect privacy”, “respect human rights”, and “respect the law”.
Roza: Here are couple of more examples, “respect each other”, “respect each other’s rights”.
Chris: OK, and the final quite interesting example, are you ready? “Ms. Brown is not a very entertaining teacher, but most students respect her.”
Once more, “Ms. Brown is not a very entertaining teacher, but most students respect her.”
Excellent.
Roza: You guys did great. I respect your dedication to our program.
Ending
Roza: Well everyone, I just want you to know that I really respect your progress. And I think you are doing great, so just keep going.
Chris: That’s right. There I repeat what we always say, the three words, now the same word three times, are you ready Roza?
Roza: I’m ready.
Chris and Roza: Practice, practice, practice.
Ohnishi:
All: Bye … practice, practice, practice.
