Opening

Roza: Hey everyone. This is Akino Roza. Welcome back and let’s get started.

Chris: Well you know, as a native of Scotland, I definitely recommend it. It’s very difficult to imitate the Scottish accent, you know.

Roza: I love it.

Chris: Chris McVay here.

Ohnishi:

Practice 9:50

Chris: It’s practice time. Let’s continue practicing the word “as”. And to help you really grasp the native speaker feeling for this word, keep the image of equality in your mind.

Ok, here we go.

  • As a native of Scotland, I definitely recommend it.
  • As your doctor, I suggest you should ~.
  • As your teacher, I suggest you should ~.
  • As your partner, I suggest you should ~.
  • As your father, I suggest you should ~.

So, “as doctor”, “as teacher”, “as partner”, “as father”, this equality is strongly there.

Roza: Continuing on,

  • I regard my new job as a big challenge.

Here too, “my new job” equals “big challenge”. Let’s try it again.

  • I regard my new job as a big challenge.

Chris: And another one,

  • Do as I say, not as I do.

Once more,

  • Do as I say, not as I do.

Roza: And our last example,

  • Taro is as tall as Jiro.

One more time,

  • Taro is as tall as Jiro

Excellent work.

Chris: Yeah, that’s as good as it gets.

as good as it gets

Ending

Ohnishi: Hey guys, where do you want to visit in Japan?

Chris: We I’ve been lucky enough to visit almost every corner of Japan, but one place I haven’t been and would like to go is Hakodate.

How about you, Roza?

Roza: I actually would like to go to Yakushima.

Ohnishi: I’ve been there. That was fantastic.

All: Bye.
