Roza: 先生、パサパサマンって何?

Ohnishi: いや、乾燥してるから髪がパサパサしてさ・・・

Roza: それだけ?

Ohnishi: それだけ。

ラジオ英会話、ハートでつかめ英語の極意、講師の大西泰斗です。

Roza: 髪だけじゃない気がするんだけどねぇ。 Hey everyone. Akino Roza here.

Chris: Hi guys. Chris McVay here. You know, I’ve often wondered how long will it take to appreciate Sensei’s openings.

Roza: At least two months.

Ohnishi: というわけで、さっそく始めていきましょう。

upcoming 2:45

Practice 9:23

Chris: OK guys, it’s practice time again. Today we are concentrating on phrases related to consequences. Consequences literally means something that follows, so you do something and something follows.

So, let’s begin with that phrase “as a result”.

  • As a result of hours of practice, her dance performance was magnificent.

She does hours of practice, what follows? – a great improvement in her dance performance. Let’s try that once more together,

  • As a result of hours of practice, her dance performance was magnificent.

Roza: Let’s continue to consequences,

  • If you go on like this, there’ll be serious consequences.

One more time,

  • If you go on like this, there’ll be serious consequences.

And let’s try one more,

  • He didn’t study at all, and consequently he failed the exam.

Chris: OK, and the final phrase, it’s a very useful verb “end up”, so keep practicing this and get used to it. Here is a couple of examples.

  • He started from nothing and ended up a billionaire.

Once more,

  • He started from nothing and ended up a billionaire.

And the final one,

  • After backpacking for two years, I ended up teaching English in Japan.

Last chance,

  • After backpacking for two years, I ended up teaching English in Japan.

Roza: You know, I think these sentences might have been a bit difficult and long, but our listeners ended up doing great, didn’t they?

Chris: They did wonderfully.

Ending

Ohnishi: You know what, the other day, I was driving following the car-navi, but ended up in the middle of nowhere.

Chris: Well, actually, every time I choose to use the car-navi, it takes me on the longest route possible.

・・・・・

Ohnishi: というわけで、今日はこの辺で。

All: Bye.
