Roza: Hey everyone. Akino Roza here. Ready for today’s lesson?

David: Hi guys. I’m David Evans. OK everyone, let’s get ready? and have a good day.

Ohnishi: さぁそれでは、さっそく始めていきましょう。

David: All right everyone. It’s time to practice. Let’s make good introductions, OK?

Roza: So, feel free to use your name when you practice, too. OK, here is the first example.

• Hi. Good to meet you. My name’s Roza. Are you here by yourself?

And let’s try another variation.

• Hi. Good to meet you. My name’s Roza. Are you having a good time?

David: OK everyone. Let’s try this next one together.

• Hi. I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m David. Great party, isn’t it?

Let’s look at “met”. If you listen I don’t say “met”. I say “me(t)”. It’s a very soft t-sound. It’s important for sounding natural. Try it together, “me(t)”, “me(t)”.

Roza: And of course, you can say “met”, but “me(t)” is a very big characteristic of American English.

David: OK everyone. Let’s go one more time.

• Hi. I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m David. Great party, isn’t it?

David: Great work.

Roza: Fantastic.

Ohnishi: Hey guys, have you ever been on the cruse ship?

David: Me? No, actually, I haven’t.

Roza: Yeah, me neither.
