Opening
Ohnishi: いやぁ大昔、今は亡くなった父親からヒューストン宇宙センターのお土産で、定規をもらったんですよねぇ。30センチ定規。これねぇまだ持ってるんですよ。もう50年ぐらい経ってるんですけどね。
ラジオ英会話、ハートでつかめ英語の極意、講師の大西泰斗です。
Roza: Hey everyone. Well, I’m very happy to see you guys join us today, too. This is Akino Roza.
David: And I’m David Evans. It’s time for lift off, so let’s get going.
Ohnishi: それでは、今週もがんばっていきましょう。

David: OK everyone. It’s time for practice. Are you ready to do it?
Roza: I’m happy to get started.
David: Nice. Then, let’s jump ride right in. Our first sentences use “willing”. “Willing” versus “happy” … “happy” means that I’m excited to do it, but “willing” is that basic level. It’s OK, I’m not super excited about it. Let’s try some.
- I’m willing to lead the project. I have experience.
- I’m not willing to do overtime. I have children at home.
Roza: OK, now let’s continue to a couple examples of “I’m happy to”.
- I’m happy to take you to the airport.
OK, one more.
- I’m happy to go to the store for you.
David: Now let’s “prepared” and “ready”. Here we go.
- I’m prepared to drive if needed.
- I’m ready to help out. Just ask.
Roza: Wonderful. And now let’s got to “allow me to”.
- Allow me to share my advice on this topic.
- Allow me to demonstrate how to do it.

Ohnishi: Hey guys, are you interested in outer space?
David: Oh yeah. Other planets, black hales, comets, they are out of this world.
Roza: You know, I can talk on and on about outer space. It’s almost as if I’m a black hole for all that information.
