Opening

Roza:

Ohnishi:

Roza: Well that was out of the blue. This is Akino Roza.

David: And I’m David Evans. I wasn’t expecting you to say such a thing.

Practice 9:30

David: All right everyone. It’s time for today’s practice. I’m sure all of us, at some point, have had this experience where we agree with something but not a hundred percent. It’s important in cases like this to use your intonation to indicate that you are not in a hundred percent agreement.

Roza: Great point David, so try to do your best in our practice.

David: All ready? here we go.

  • I think I agree with ~.

Let’s try that one more time.

  • I think I agree with ~.

Roza: Great, let’s continue.

  • I agree with most of what you’re saying.
  • I agree with the main thrust of your opinion.
  • I agree with  the gist of your idea.
  • I agree with you up to a point.

David: OK, let’s continue.

  • You’re probably right.

Let’s try that with a little more uncertainty.

  • You’re probably right.

Roza: Did you noticed the difference between the first time and the second time? David raised the “right” at the end to give it a little bit more uncertainty.

OK, let’s do the last few together.

  • You could be right.
  • That could work.
  • That could be an option.
  • That might be doable.
  • You may have a point.

Roza: Great work, guys.

David: Roza, what would you say we do these two hundred times instead of one hundred?

Roza: Ah, that could work but I don’t think we have enough time.

David: Ah, meow.

1つ目、what do you say ~ かもです。

→ Oh, man では?

Ending

Ohnishi: Hum, I suppose you are right. Maybe I’m being too strict with myself.

Roza: David, did you tell him he was being too strict on himself?

David: I was just practicing.

Ohnishi:

All: Bye.
