Pronunciation Polish 12:25

David: All right everyone. It’s time for today’s pronunciation polish. First, let’s check out today’s sentence. “Was he a person of some importance?” …

All right, lots of points here, but let’s zoom in and practice them together.

First up is was plus he, when linking, the h in words like he, his, him and her disappear, so listen closely. Was he … then we add the a, and it becomes Was he a … Was he a person.

All right, person plus of becomes person of … Great work.

some here, that o sound is nice and short becomes /ə/, some … plus importance, some importance … a person of some importance …

All right, now let’s put it all together. You can do it.

  • Was he a person of some importance?

All right, when you learn a patterns, it becomes easier and easier to do these on your own, and it’s easy when you listen to other people speaking, so keep it up and you’ll do better.

Ending

Onishi: さて、ここでお知らせです。(略)

All: Bye.
