Roza: Hey guys. Are you enjoying a lesson so far? Yes? Good for you. This is Akino Roza.

David: And I'm David Evans. All right everyone. Let's get right into it.

Onishi: それでは、さっそくはじめていきましょう。

Essential Expressions

  • That's great!
  • That's wonderful!
  • That's awesome!
  • I got the job. - Nice.
  • You deserve it.
  • That's great to hear.

David: Great job.

Practical Usage

これはディクテーションじゃなくて、自分の作文です

That's wonderful. Congratulations. I think both of you are excited. Have you picked out the destination of your honeymoon?

Pronunciation Polish 13:15

David: OK everyone. It's time for today's pronunciation polish. Here is today's phrase.

  • Good for you.

OK, it's short and sweet and it's a high frequency phrase, so let's master this together, OK?

First up, we have the /d/ sound in good which will disappear. Good ...

Next up is the schwa sound in for becomes like this, for ... for you ...

  • Good for you.

Nice. Now, this is just three words but the intonation here will decide the nuance, so please pay careful attention.

"Good for you" is the standard happy expression. If you use a neutral tone "Good for you", it can sound a little sarcastic, let's practice the intonation one more time with good energy.

  • Good for you.

How did you do? You did well, good for you.

Ending

Onishi: Hey guys, I swam a kilometer at the gym yesterday.

Roza: Good for you.

David: Good for you.

Onishi: What's the tone of vice?

Roza: ぱれたか。

David: Good for you! Wow!

Onishi: うるさいわ。というわけで、今日はこの辺で。

All: Bye
