Practice 9:48

Chris: OK guys, are you ready to practice? Now, you’ve just heard Ohnishi-Sensei’s description of the basic images of these two verbs, arrive and reach. So, let’s just be very careful about the sentence pattern because the sentence patterns are different. OK, with all that in mind, let’s practice together. Here we go, “arrive here”, “arrive home”, “arrive at the hotel”, “arrive in London”, “arrive from London”.

Roza: And here are some examples with reach, “reach the hotel”, “reach London”, “reach the top of Mt. Fuji”.

You can feel the process that reaching towards it, right?

Chris: That’s right and same goes here, “reach the top shelf”. A few more, “reach 740 mph”, “reach a peak”, “reach my knees”.

Roza: And the last one, “We’ve reached the conclusion that ~.”

Excellent work.

Chris: Hum, I’ve reached the conclusion that they are doing a very good job, Roza?

Roza: I’d have to agree.

ここで here や home は副詞で、前置詞+名詞(例えば at the hotel)と同じ働きです。

Ending

Ohnishi: Chris, you went to France for a while, right? What are your impressions after arriving back in Japan?

Chris: Well, apart from a very lengthy checking process at the airport, I was so glad to be back home because it feels like home to be in Japan now.

Roza: You know, whenever I come back to Japan from abroad, I always make sure to go to the bathroom inset and sit on the warm toilet seat. It’s wonderful.

Chris: Um, interesting impression.

・・・・・

Ohnishi: というわけで今日はこの辺で。

All: Bye!

inset で合ってるかな?

and sit on ~ ですね。ツイッターで教えてもらいました!
