Opening

Roza: Hey everyone. This is Akino Roza. David, an envelope came from Ohnishi-Sensei today.

David: It’s addressed to both of us.

Roza: Let’s put it in the drawer.

David: OK, good idea.

Ohnishi: You don’t read that?

David: And I’m David Evans.

Ohnishi:

Practice 9:00

Roza: OK guys. It’s time to practice.

David: Now, “Have you ever” can be said clearly and distinctly, but many people shorten these to “Have you ever”. At first, we will speak slowly and clearly, and gradually speed up as we go. Sounds good? Let’s try.

  • Have you ever met her?
  • Have you ever eaten there?
  • Have you ever tried multivitamins?
  • Have you ever played golf?

Do you see how by the end, “Have you ever” becomes “Have you ever”?

Roza: OK, now let’s try some “Have you ~ before” chunks.

  • Have you met her before?
  • Have you eaten there before?
  • Have you tried multivitamins before?
  • Have you played golf before?

Great.

David: Now, we don’t always speak so formally. Sometimes we drop words that has been when we use more casual phrasing, so let’s try one of those together, with the call and response.

  • Ever been there? – No. Never been there.

Let’s go again.

  • Ever been there? – No. Never been there.

All right everyone, great job with those chunks. Do you feel better with them?

Roza: Fantastic work guys.

Ending

David: Hey Sensei, have ever been to Kokedera?

Ohnishi: No. I’ve never been there.

Roza: It’s definitely worth going but you have to be careful.

David: Why is that?

Roza:

Ohnishi:

All: Bye.
