Opening

Roza:

Ohnishi:

Roza:

Ohnishi:

Roza: Akino Roza here.

David: And I’m David Evans. There is lots to do today, so let’s get started.

Ohnishi:

I would think not 3:45

Ohnishi: Roza, could you explain why “would” is used here?

Roza: The “would” here is used to express some level of uncertainty. Masami thinks about it and says “Uh …, I would think not.” Do you feel that uncertainty?

Practice 9:20

Roza: OK guys, let’s practice what to say when you can’t say.

David: Don’t just limit yourself to one phrase, if you always say “I don’t know”, it doesn’t always convey the right meaning, so let’s practice a lot of different ways to say “I can’t say”.

OK, here we go.

  • I’m not so sure about that.
  • I’m not really sure about that.
  • I’m not very sure about that.
  • I’m not super sure about that.
  • I’m not completely sure about that.

Here is one more.

  • I can’t say for sure.

Roza: OK, let’s continue.

  • It’s hard to say.

And one more.

  • It’s not easy to say.

David: All right and here is one more.

  • I wouldn’t like to say.

Let’s go one more time.

  • I wouldn’t like to say.

Great job everyone.

Roza: Excellent work, guys.

Ending

Roza: Ah, I’m not so sure about that.

David: I could comment, but I wouldn’t like to say.

All: Bye.
