Opening
Ohnishi: If I only had a heart …
ラジオ英会話、ハートでつかめ英語の極意、講師の大西泰斗です。
David: Sensei, isn’t that “If I only had a brain”?
Ohnishi: No, I’m the Tin Man.
David: Oh, I see. Does that make me the Scarecrow?
Roza: Well, I guess that means I’m the Lion.
David: Hi everyone. I’m David Evans.
Roza: And this is Akino Roza. オズの魔法使い、だね。
Ohnishi: それでは、さっそく始めていきましょう。
Practice 9:20
David: OK, it’s time for today’s practice. Today, we’ll continue with “wish”. After “wish” comes 仮定法 and while it’s OK to say either “were” or “was”, today let’s just focus on “were”. You’ll never have a problem and it feels like 仮定法, OK?
Roza: Let’s begin. I wish I were … I wish I were …
- I wish I were a bird.
David: I wish I weren’t … I wish I weren’t …
- I wish I weren’t so busy.
Roza: I wish you were … I wish you were …
- I wish you were here.
I wish you weren’t … I wish you weren’t …
- I wish you weren’t so stubborn.
David: Unlock your potential.
Roza: Repetition is the key.
Both: Great work.
