Opening
Onishi: いやぁスポーツ選手のがんばりってすごいですね。ぼくたちも同じように、英語をがんばっていきましょう。切するがごとく、磋するがごとく、琢するがごとく、磨するがごとく、切磋琢磨ですね。
ラジオ英会話、ハートでつかめ英語の極意、講師の大西泰斗です。
Roza: Hey everyone. Akino Roza here.
David: And I'm David Evans. I ... I didn't understand the a word, I just heard muscle.
Onishi: それでは今週も、がんばっていきましょう。。
a word で、一つも聞き取れなかった、ということですね。ご指摘ありがとうございます。
zero in on 8:35
Ohnishi: David, could you give us an example of "zero in on"?
David: Oh sure, a common example is, "let's zero in on the answer", "let's zero in on the problem". It means laser beam focus.
Grasp the Concept 9:35
- This decision will have a significant impact on our future.
- I had to concentrate on keeping her at bay.
- She hung up on me.
David: Good work.
Practical Usage
気が向いたときに・・・これはディクテーションじゃなくて、自分の答えです。
I need a help for this project. I have been working on it for many days but I can't see the end line. This effects on my sleep.
最後の文がイマイチかなー
Pronunciation Polish 13:20
Roza: All right guys, are you ready for the pronunciation polish? Today's phrase is "I had to concentrate on keeping her at bay" ... In today's phrase, we'll be practicing three points.
So the first one is "had_to", the d and t are combined, had_to.
The next point is "concentrate_on". You hear the connection of concentrate on, concentrate_on.
The last point is "at bay", the t and b combine together in one sound, at_bay.
Let's practice, had_to ... Great, next one, concentrate_on ... Next one, at_bay ... OK, let's combine.
- I had to_concentrate_on keeping her at_bay
How was that? Do you feel good?
Ending
Roza: 先生、昔の言葉をよく知ってますね。
David: Yeah, it's surprising you know so many things.
Onishi: 巧言令色鮮し仁、サインはVは中山仁・・・というわけで、今日はこの辺で。
All: Bye.
