Opening
Ohnishi: 人生ってうまくいかないなシリーズ。高校生の時はお金ができたら、イモ天とかちくわ天とかトッピング全部のせてうどんを食べようかなと思っていたんですが、でも今はちくわ天とかイモ天とかを買うお金は十分あるんですけれどもカロリー怖くて食べられません。
ラジオ英会話ハートでつかめ英語の極意、講師の大西泰斗です。
Roza: Hey everyone. Akino Roza here. Let’s have another great lesson.
Chris: Chris McVay here. Hey listeners, today you are in luck because we have a super lesson for you.
Ohnishi: さぁそれでは、さっそく始めていきましょう。
“Do you / Can you speak English” 3:15
Roza: Well, from a native speaker to a non-native speaker saying “Can you speak English?” sounds a bit condescending but from a non-native speaker to a native speaker, it’s fine.
condescending は知らなかったですが、「見下すような、上から目線の」です。

Chris: OK guys, it’s time to practice the key sentence. “I’ll be happy to take you there”. Here we have an adjective “happy” but if I say, “I’ll be happy”, you want to know why, where it’s leading to? So, that’s why we use “to” infinitive. “I’ll be happy – to take you there”, “I’ll be happy – to take you there”. With that feeling, let’s practice it together. “I’ll be happy – to take you there”, try!
OK, a little bit more you can put into with “I’ll be happy” – “to take you there”. One two three …
That’s better, well done.
adjective は形容詞、infinitive は不定詞です。
you can put into with ~ のところはちょっと自信がないです。

Ohnishi: Hey Chirs, I’m just practicing.

Ohnishi: No.
Roza: はい。
